The Village in Coto de Caza
One of the most charming neighborhoods in Coto de Caza is The Village. This eclectic group of approximately 400 custom homes is characterized by the way the homes and streets and greenbelts blend into the natural terrain of the gently rolling hills. Adjacent to the Old Club and the Coto Equestrian Center, The Village often reminds homeowners and visitors of the feeling of Connecticut of other areas of the East Coast.
The first homes were built in The Village over 30 years ago, predominantly as a second home site for many families. Some are very rustic and have a definite mountain cabin feeling. Others are three or more stories – built into the sloping hillsides. At that time building in The Village first began, the Vic Braden Tennis Center was in full swing at the Old Club. The area was considered very remote form everything else in Orange Count – Rancho Santa Margarita was still on the drawing board. Trips to the far away grocery stores were a big event.
The Village has its own Home Owners Association and is not a part of the CZ Master Association which governs the rest of Coto de Caza. The HOA guidelines keep the neighborhood true to its original intent to remain rustic and rural. Homeowners in The Village enjoy wide open green areas behind the homes – where they cannot build permanent structures, but are allowed to improve the landscape if they then maintain it. There are some very lovely gardens and paths along the green belts. And horses are often traversing the trails winding behind the homes in The Village.
