Los Ranchos Estates

Coto de Caza offers Orange County’s most unique and up-scale equestrian community - Los Ranchos Estates. Much as the tract homes of Coto de Caza surround the two Robert Trent Jones signature golf courses of the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club, the estates in Los Ranchos are situated adjacent to the Coto Valley Equestrian Center and Riley Wilderness Park.

Los Ranchos Estates in Coto de Caza is comprised entirely of custom estates on lots anywhere from 2 – 7 acres. Most of the homes themselves are between 6000 and 12,000 square feet. The lots are zoned for equestrian use, and many estates have separate barns and grooms quarters. It is not uncommon to find grazing pastures, large turn-outs, and riding rings on some of the Los Ranchos properties. The style of homes in Los Ranchos varies from Tuscan, to Mediterranean, to American Colonial, to French Provincial, and Spanish Hacienda – just to name a few.

While Coto de Caza in general attracts a home owner with an up-scale active Southern California life-style, Los Ranchos is a cut above. The homes are among the most expensive of any high-end neighborhood in the area, due to the size of the lots and the size and scale of the homes and amenities. In addition to serving the needs of horse enthusiasts, equestrian pursuits are not the exclusive interest of Los Rancho home owners. Many of the estates also boast basketball courts, tennis courts (even indoor tennis courts) putting greens, ponds, creeks and even moats to be found on some of the Los Rancho Estates properties.

Getting back to what makes Los Ranchos unique among Southern California Equestrian communities is the consistently luxurious and high end homes (some think much nicer overall than The Hunt Club in San Juan and Nellie Gail Ranch in Laguna Niguel), the size of the lots (much larger on average than The Hunt Club, Nellie Gail Ranch or Orange Park Acres), and the ride-out access to over 40 miles of trails in Riley Wilderness Park and within Coto itself from almost every individual compound.

The Coto Valley Equestrian Center offers the surrounding communities access to top-notch trainers in all aspects of horse back riding – Hunter/Jumpers – led by Theresa Petyo and Amanda Cox of Turning Point Farms, to Dressage, Eventing, and Western pursuits.
