Coto's Hole #3 on the North Course, a long Par 4 dogleg right.

From the Tee

You'll face a strategic choice on the tee - short and safe with a long second shot, or an aggressive drive with risk/reward.  In addition, although it may be easy to hit the fairway, a mediocre shot will leave a very difficult second.  The fairway is very wide, with the ever-present creek and oak trees on the left, and the farther left you go the longer you second shot will be.  From the Blue tees, the fairway ends about 230 yards away as the creek bends in, so the ideal safe shot is a fairway wood or rescue club to the corner on the right edge of the fairway (near the lurking bunker), leaving about 150 yards up the hill to the green.

Number 2 North is a scoring opportunity.  At only 323 yards from the Blue and 349 yards from the Gold, distance is no problem.  Two relatively simple shots will give you a chance at birdie or an easy par, but as with most holes at Coto, a mistake can lead to real trouble very quickly.

From the Blue Tees, the fairway is just a long iron or fairway wood away.  The perfect shot is about 190 yards over the mound to the right of the large tree, straight at the green.  Feel like going for the gusto?  A driver will put you inside 100 yards – as long as you can hit a 15 yard-wide target.

Right is bunker, steep hillside, and OB.  Slicers beware - your ball may end up in the living room of a large custom home…

Nothing Like Hopping on a Great Horse and Hacking Around Coto de Caza

Behind the gates of Coto de Caza lies direct access to an amazing trail system for horses, hikers, and mountain bikers.  On this sunny spring day some of the girls got out for a little trail ride - beginning at Elizabeth's house in Los Ranchos Estates and taking us through the back of the Coto Equestrian Center, across Coto Drive - (big thanks to all of you who stop for horses to pass - you are awesome!) past the Coto Sports Park, up the trail head into the native coastal sage scrub, then down the trail into the custom estates in The Woods, through the Oak Trees, then back up the unspoiled hills.  Today we saw a Roadrunner (no Axel Dynamite in hand, thankfully) and a huge Red Tailed…
