Equestrian Living in Orange County

Posted by Leslie Eskildsen on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 at 7:15pm.

As incredible as it may seem, there are quite a few properties in Orange County where you can still keep your horses and ride out into the regional park systems.  This term “ride out” means you can ride out of your property and connect with something interesting to “ride through” – like tree shrouded trails through in Santiago Oaks Regional Park and Irvine Regional Park.  Other great natural areas to check out are Caspers Wilderness Park, Riley Wilderness Park, and O'Neil Regional Park.

Orange Park Acres

Orange Park Acres is a very tight knit eclectic community comprised of avid horse lovers and others who enjoy the feeling of a home nestled on a large lot with lots of grounds surrounding them. The typical OPA lot is about an acre, some with dramatic changes in elevation, some completely flat, and some in between.

One home on the market is an awsome example of a custom beauty.  You won’t find a finer combination of fantastic horse facility for both the owner and the animals, a totally up-to-date home with all the bells and whistles – granite, stainless steel, travertine, sky lights, hard wood, … and an impressive and inviting outdoor entertainment center with a tropical free-form pool and spa, massive and emotional outdoor fireplace, outdoor kitchen and plenty of room for company to mingle.  The equestrian improvements include 3 stall MD barn with over-sized stalls, extra tall roof for more effective ventilation, automatic fly spray system, large turn outs, and direct access to the 100’ by 60’ arena.  The arena’s viewing stand can easily hold 10 people – great for spectators watching a horsemanship clinic or watching neighbor work his green pony. The wooden barn has 2 stalls, an indoor tack room, a bathroom, and upstairs office/play room/teen room/media room/ or guest suite.  To schedule a showing of this phenomenal property - just give me a call - 949-678-3373!

Coto de Caza

Coto de Caza has one main area – Los Ranchos Estates – which is mostly 2 acres and larger equestrian zoned parcels. These are all custom built homes with a wide variety of styles – from Tuscan to Tudor to Hacienda, French Provincial, French Country, and Spanish Revival – just to give you a few.  In addition to the Los Ranchos Estates Coto neighborhood - The Woods also offers some equestrian zoned properties – although the ratio of improved equestrian (in others words, there is actually a facility that could support a horse or two or more on the property because they have stalls, a barn, riding arena or large turn outs, and most desirably – ride out access to the local trails) is much lower than in Los Ranchos, and the properties tend to be smaller lots – usually about an acre.  There is a small enclave of terrific homes on Oak Canyon Trail – at least one of which has an active horse facility – you can see them from Vista del Verde! The Forest and The Arbors also have a scattering of improved equestrian lots.

Coto Valley Equestrian Center is located inside Coto near Los Ranchos Estates and The Village.  Trainers in Coto, listed below, cover the full range of disciplines, including Western, Dressage, Hunters, and Jumpers.
